Actor Sean Penn is in Ukraine to film documentary about Russian invasion

Sean Penn landed in Kiev, Ukraine, to “tell the world the truth about the Russian invasion” of the country. According to the website of the magazine “Newsweek”, the statement is from an official statement released by the Office of the President of Ukraine on Thursday (24). The actor and film director is filming a documentary about the conflict.

This is not the first time that Penn has visited the country: in November 2021, he would have started this work, talking to the Ukrainian military and documenting the Sea of Azov.

As soon as he arrived, the actor went to the President’s Office to speak with Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk and met local journalists and members of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The government statement expressed gratitude to Penn: “The director specially came to Kiev to record all the events that are currently happening in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about the Russian invasion of our country. Sean Penn is among those supporting Ukraine today. Our country is grateful to him for this display of courage and honesty.”

On his first trip to Ukraine, Penn visited several regions of the country, and his aim was to show how Donbas, which is now at the center of Ukraine’s crisis, was impacted by battles with pro-Moscow rebels.

Sean Peen has been involved in numerous anti-war campaigns and humanitarian operations over the past decade. In addition, he created a non-profit organization called CORE, Community Organized Relief Effort, in response to the 2010 Haiti earthquakes.
