British actor Tom Holland said he will play legendary film star Fred Astaire, best remembered for dancing and singing alongside Ginger Rogers in various musicals such as “The Picolino” and “Crazy Rhythm” in a new biopic.
Reputed to have been one of the greatest dancers of all time, Astaire had a seven-decade career in film and theater on both Broadway and the West End.
“I’m playing Fred Astaire. The script arrived a week ago. I haven’t read it yet. They didn’t give it to me,” Holland said.
“Amy Pascal has the script,” he said, referring to the “Spider-Man” producer. “She spoke to me on FaceTime earlier. I was in the shower and we had a lovely conversation.”
Holland spoke during a group photo at the premiere of “Spider-Man: No Return Home” with fellow cast member and girlfriend Zendaya in London on Sunday (5).
The pair spoke of their love for what they called the Spider-Man family. Zendaya, who plays Mary Jane in the film, said she was happy to have met Holland while acting in the production.
The couple are involved in real life and in the film, which revolves around revealing the superhero’s true identity for the first time.
The film is already doing well in UK pre-sales tickets, but Holland said the pandemic has put pressure on it to succeed to be different this year.
