Actress Ilka Soares dies of cancer in Rio de Janeiro, aged 89

The actress Ilka Soares , 89 years old, died this Saturday morning (18) at the São Vicente clinic, in Gávea, South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. She had been hospitalized for ten days and was undergoing treatment for lung cancer. Ilka would have turned 90 this Monday (20).

The confirmation was made by the grandson of the actress, the stylist Thomas Azulay through social networks.

“It is with sadness and peace that the family communicates the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and biggest star Ilka Soares”, he wrote in the publication. “Grandma Ilka, the ever-enormous, now the biggest star in my constellation.”

According to information from the Memória Globo portal, Ilka Hack Soares is the daughter of Elísio Soares, who worked in a pharmacy, and the housewife Orminda Hack, of German origin. Born in Rio de Janeiro, the actress made her film debut at the age of 17 alongside Mário Brasini in the film “Iracema” (1949), inspired by the work of José de Alencar.

She was married to actor Anselmo Duarte and, alongside him, acted in features such as “Maior que odio” (1951), by José Carlos Burle, “Carnaval em Marte” (1955), by Watson Macedo, and “After I Tale” (1956). The artist’s second marriage was with the former director general of Globo Walter Clark.
