Actress Sharon Stone reveals she suffered nine miscarriages

Sharon Stone said she has “lost nine children” to miscarriages, claiming that women are made to feel that losing a baby is “something to bear alone and secretly”, with a sense of failure.

The Golden Globe-winning actress shared her painful experience in a People magazine Instagram post, where “Dancing with the Stars” artist Peta Murgatroyd opened up about losing a pregnancy while her husband, Maks Chmerkovskiy, was in Ukraine. .

Stone, who is the mother of children Roan, Laird and Quinn by adoption, wrote: “We as women don’t have a forum to discuss the depth of this loss. I lost nine children to miscarriage.”

The 64-year-old “Basic Instinct” star lamented the lack of care offered to women who have suffered a miscarriage, saying anyone who has suffered such a loss needs “compassion, empathy and healing”.

“It’s not a small thing, physically or emotionally, but we’re made to feel like it’s something to bear alone and secretly with some sort of sense of failure. Instead of receiving the much-needed compassion, empathy and healing that we so badly need,” she said.

“Women’s health and well-being left to the care of male ideology has become, at best, neglectful, de facto ignorant and violently oppressive in the effort.”

Stone previously revealed in a 2017 interview with ExtraTV that a genetic blood condition prevented her from carrying a pregnancy to term.

According to a 2021 editorial published in the medical journal The Lancet, an estimated 23 million miscarriages occur globally each year, with one in 10 women experiencing a lifetime pregnancy loss.

Last year, in an interview with BBC Radio’s Woman’s Hour, Stone praised the “global sisterhood”, which included stars like Chrissy Teigen and Vanessa Kirby, for talking about “issues of loss and heartache and rape and brutalization and all the things that happened to us and our bodies.”

“We are no longer carrying the water,” she said. “We are not carrying a shame that does not belong to us. We are letting her out.”
