Acts “strengthen” Finance, and minimum wage should remain at R$ 1,302, without readjustment

Sunday’s criminal acts helped the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, to enforce his thesis of readjusting the minimum wage in the amount of R$1,302 for the entire year. Without, therefore, a new increase to R$ 1,320 in May as defended by the Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho and the most political wing of the government.

The idea is that the criminal acts ended up empowering the government politically and cacindo it to take unpopular measures in the name of fiscal responsibility.

According to sources at the Planalto Palace, told the CNN the idea is that before this decision, Lula calls the union centrals for an expanded meeting in which he explains the decision.

In this sense, a collective announcement by Haddad and Marinho of a staggered increase now of R$1,302 and R$1,320 in May ended up being suspended.

The political wing advocated that both make the announcement this Monday. In view of the criminal acts, the new plan ended up being for this Wednesday (11).

But, at the meetings of the economic team this Tuesday (10) and its members with members of the Palácio do Planalto, Haddad’s thesis ended up prevailing of a minimum for the whole year of R$ 1,302, and the official announcement must be made anyway next week, after Lula’s meeting with the centrals, which has yet to be scheduled.

The finance minister plans to participate in the announcement, but he leaves for the World Economic Forum this Sunday and won’t return until Thursday of next week.

Haddad interlocutors consider the movement a political victory, the first in office since taking office.

Before, he had defended the end of the extension of tax benefits for fuels, but had to give in after the political wing considered that the impact on popularity could harm the government’s start.

The minimum of R$ 1,302 is what was defined by former President Jair Bolsonaro. The value includes a readjustment of 7.4%. Lula had promised a bigger increase in the campaign.

Government technicians defended BRL 1,320, which would imply an extra expenditure of BRL 7.2 billion for the government.
