Ad. Georgiadis: A new era in Greek-Saudi Arabia relations

The Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, spoke about a new era in the bilateral relations between Greece and Saudi Arabia in a statement after the end of the visit of the governmental and business mission to Riyadh.

Giving the stigma of the visit, Adonis Georgiadis said the trip went at least three times better than expected in terms of the result of private investment and in terms of government contacts could not be better. He further added that two more Saudi ministers had been added to the agenda today and that the meeting with the Saudi energy minister had lasted much longer.

He expressed the belief that it was a mission that at the level of government and at the level of private economy had very great benefits. Indicatively, he stated that when planning the trip they had set as a goal to be successful to have about 100 bilateral business meetings (B2B) between companies from Greece and Saudi Arabia, and when yesterday at the end of the day the final list of B2B was given meetings had exceeded 300 in number.

Saudi business mission to Greece in May

At the same time, he sent the message that there will be continuity, with the visit to Greece in May of a business mission from Saudi Arabia.

“In March we in Saudi Arabia, in May they in Athens, there is so much willingness on the part of Saudi Arabia to work with us and so much for us to work with them,” he said.

The Minister of Development and Investment further stated that the will of the government and the Prime Minister is for such trips to be made in many places and stressed that extroversion is an important part of the economy as envisioned by the current government. He added that if the coronavirus pandemic had not come, such trips would have been made by 2020 in various countries and pointed out that now that the pandemic is over and despite the difficulties of the war “we aim to regain lost ground with a lot of work”. Crystallizing his message further, he said that the future of the Greek economy is extroversion.

He thanked the Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Frangogiannis and the Secretary General of International Economic Relations and President of Enterprise Greece Giannis Smyrlis for the “very good organization of the trip”.

He noted that their cooperation was flawless and the result justifies all this effort.

In addition, he thanked the Deputy Minister of Development and Investment Giannis Tsakiris, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Sofia Zacharaki, the Secretary General of Private Investments Orestis Kavalakis, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism Olympia Anastassopoulou.

He also made special mention of the Greek ambassador to Saudi Arabia, noting that the embassy worked hard for the trip and this was evident from the many meetings that had been closed. He characteristically stated that he and the Undersecretary of State saw 7-8 ministers.

Finally, he confessed that he has participated as an MP in business trips and he does not remember such a good result in any of what he had participated in in the past. In this, he pointed out, the very mood of the Saudi side helped. He said the government mission was delayed in leaving because Saudi Arabia’s development minister had requested and seen the mission again, leaving with his team to summarize all agreements reached in the previous three days, and ordered joint working groups to be set up. Ministries of Saudi Arabia and Greece to monitor the implementation schedule of all agreements.

K. Frangogiannis: Greece’s relationship with Saudi Arabia is better today than ever

The message that Greece’s relationship with Saudi Arabia is better today than ever before, was sent by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of economic diplomacy, Costas Frangogiannis after the end of the visit of the governmental and business mission to Riyadh. The Undersecretary underlined Greece’s willingness to capitalize on the good, strategic, historical and political relationship through investments in Saudi Arabia and Greece.

“The big secret is the follow-up”

He pointed out that the business mission does not end here, it starts here and underlined that “the big secret is the follow-up in everything we do”.

Mr. Frangogiannis thanked the large business team, which consists of 43 Greek companies and 55 entrepreneurs for their participation in this mission. He also acknowledged the “excellent work” done by Enterprise Greece and its CEO George Filiopoulos, as well as Foreign Ministry diplomats. “Continuing, he said that Enterprise Greece is the main pillar of the country’s extroversion.”

“A new era in business missions”

The Undersecretary of State stressed that a new era is beginning in business missions, “which we want to be focused and not general”, as he added.
