“Since yesterday, the public consultation is probably the most difficult thing I have done in these three years at the Ministry of Development. It is the solution for the consolidation of the Elefsina Shipyards. I hope that the law will be passed by the end of July.”
This is what the Minister of Development and Investments Adonis Georgiadis said in an interview today on ANT1.
He emphasized that: “All the jobs in the shipyards will be saved and the workers will be paid the money owed to them by the shipyards for 7-8 years. The workers will get approximately 41 million euros. Both me and Mr. Nikos Papathanasis we worked on this project a lot, it was very difficult. Because the shipyards have a debt of 440 million and as you understand, finding someone who wants to join a shipyard that owes 440 million is not the easiest thing in the world.” .
He also noted: “I don’t hide from you a personal pride: when I took over the ministry all three shipyards were closed. Hopefully, when I leave this ministry all three shipyards Neorio, Skaramangas and Elefsina will be working”.
Commenting on current issues, the minister mentioned the criticism of SYRIZA: “They can curse me for everything, but they can’t curse me for one thing: whether we are solving the issues in the Ministry of Development. In NSPA from 19th place we are on the 1st, in Elliniko – where they used to say about the bulldozers – you can’t get close from the dust, all the privatizations have been done, the shipyards are moving forward. Feel free, gentlemen of SYRIZA, but let me do my job”.
When asked about the Turkaegean he said: “Each issue has to be seen in its true dimension. I was very disturbed by the Turkaegean about this and I have ordered an ECJ and have got legal advisers to deal with the matter. But other than that I am disturbed because I understand that is another lever in Turkey’s revisionism and another is the nationalist excesses of Mr. Tsipras”.
“We will argue that it is not so innocent and a simple trademark, but it is a link in Turkey’s revisionist policy. But this does not mean that we should go to the other extreme and say that we allegedly lost the Aegean.”
He also noted that: “The EDE does not aim to punish any employee, its aim is, firstly, to see if the procedures were followed, which is important, and secondly, if these procedures are enough or if we need to build more thorough systems to we can deal with these kinds of problems and not pass under the radar. This is the character of EDE”.
Regarding the case of Novartis, the minister said: “First of all, I have not asked for an apology. I cannot ask for an apology from my slanderers, especially when the following inimitable thing happens on the other side: they demand from us respect for the institutions, because it says a will of the Supreme Court came out, which the prime minister explained very well in Parliament that it is not a praise for SYRIZA. Their minister is also going to the Special Court for Novartis. Since the day I was filed, again by a decision of Justice, you have seen someone from SYRIZA apologizing to me? Or do they question my filing every day?”.
“After my filing, the prosecutor automatically sent my accounts to AADE for control. This is done automatically when a prosecutor’s investigation is completed and it is done for anyone, it has not been done specifically for me. This automatic process has again become the subject of “bullying”.
In European countries, elections are held in accordance with their constitutional provisions
Finally, regarding the Prime Minister’s reports on elections, Mr. Georgiadis said: “Although the winter is predicted to be very difficult and therefore, the decision to use up the four-year term involves elements of political risk, I believe that what weighed heavily on the decision of the prime minister is the effort he has been making since the first day he was elected: to change the image of Greece into a serious European country. In European countries, elections are held according to their constitutional provisions, they are not held every three or so times.”
