Ad. Georgiadis: Greece and Saudi Arabia can become an interconnected digital hub

Greece and Saudi Arabia can become an interconnected digital hub for the exchange of data and information, as Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis stressed in his speech at the Greece-Saudi Arabia Business Forum.

The Minister referred to the initiatives taken by the government in order to turn Greece into an investment-friendly country, stressing that the climate of cooperation for the implementation of agreements and projects between Greece and Saudi Arabia “is exemplary and is an example to follow for other missions.” He added: “We are going to do a lot of things together in the future.”

The Minister noted the interest of the Greek business community “to expand cooperation between the two countries in various fields, such as agriculture and food safety, tourism, real estate, industry, shipping and digital technology”.

Especially for digital technology, he stated the following: “Greece is one of the first fastest growing data center markets in southern Europe.

When we took over the ministry with Deputy Minister Nikos Papathanasis, our country was in the lowest position, almost zero, in terms of investments in digital technology. Three years later, Pfizer launched a digital hub in Thessaloniki and from 200 jobs it reached 700 and soon 1,000. It was followed by Digital Realty, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Google, Meta (Facebook) and many other global giants who now choose Greece due to its geopolitical position, political stability and high level of workforce. We can, Greece on the one hand and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the other, become an interconnected digital hub for the exchange of data and information. That’s our vision for the future. ”
