The government is planning actions that will immediately change the daily life of the industrial and business world. This was noted by the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis in his introductory speech at the 2nd Meeting of the Government Industry Committee for the National Strategy for Industry, emphasizing that the industry “despite the accumulated problems from the crises is recovering and growing, highlighting its recovery.”
The purpose of the meeting, which took place under the chairmanship of the Minister, was for the PwC contractor to present the inaugural report prepared by the General Secretariat of Industry and to discuss the directions and next steps of the Strategy for a competitive Greek industry.
The Minister, regarding the resilience of our industry, focused, indicatively, on two numbers. That is:
– The increase of industrial production by 9.1% from last year (September 2020-September 2021) and even higher than the EU average which moved to 4.2%.
– The increase in turnover by 36.7% in the third quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year.
“I am very optimistic about this new National Strategy, since, for the first time, we have a good time,” said Mr. Georgiadis, explaining his view as follows: “First, we have a solid governance mechanism, and we all work together to design the future of the industry with integrated planning, under the coordination of the Committee of Secretaries General and under the auspices of the General Secretariat of Industry.
Secondly, we have at our disposal a series of tools to achieve our goals, from the Recovery Fund and the new NSRF, to the tools offered by the European Union and we try to make the most of them, such as SEKEE (Important Projects of Common European Interest – see Hydrogen), and of course the technical assistance of DG Reform, in the framework of which the present project is being developed, as well as further financing programs that we will see during the development of the Strategy “.
As part of the work started since the beginning of 2021, the General Secretariat of Industry sent questionnaires to 16 general secretariats regarding the responsibilities, projects and problems they face in the industry, which of course we use to develop the strategy.
In August, the technical assistance of DG Reform started with the contractor PwC and at the same time, the governance mechanism was created and now the first report has been prepared.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Religions, Niki Kerameos, the Secretary General of EOPY of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Alexandra Sdoukou, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Labor, Anna Stratinaki, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Union of Chambers of Greece, Ioannis Chatzitheodosiou, the chairman of the Executive Committee of SEV, Efthymios Vidalis, the chairman of SVE, Athanasios Savvakis, the chairman of the civil non-profit company entitled “Greek Production – Council of Industries for Growth”, Director of the Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE), Nikos Vettas.
