Ad. Georgiadis: I will suggest an order to announce the names of companies that make a profit

The Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, spoke to RealFM 97.8, among others, about the phenomena of notoriety, violations and fines.

Asked why those who make a profit are not revealed and only fines are imposed, Mr. Georgiadis replied that “at the moment there is an issue of personal data and there are various legal issues, such as what would happen if we” stole “them in a “court, the fine was falling? Who would pay for the so-called moral damage? So legally it is not that simple.” The minister, however, added that “I am thinking of proposing a provision in Parliament where in cases of recurrence, when, for example, a chain continues to commit a violation and even a large one, then I can make the public announcement.”

In similar phenomena within the pandemic there was a similar provision, as Mr. Georgiadis explained, and he added that “in this case it was a matter of health and we did not have time. Here is the legal view that an administrative fine is always under review. “A judge in the end, if the victim disputes it. We remain a Western-style democracy, we will not lose our basic principles and values because of the crisis. It is right for administrative acts to be subject to judicial control because the administrative services can also make mistakes.”

Regarding whether the fines imposed are paid, the minister said that “they are certified by the Public Revenue Code. Beyond that, the collection is a matter for AADE, as all fines are paid. If someone [θέλει] pays 50% and goes to court. “The fines are definitely being paid and especially for the big chains that have lots with the state, they are definitely being paid.”

Fines of more than 1.5 million euros

Referring to the inspections that are carried out and repeated in the same company to determine if it has complied, Mr. Georgiadis claimed that “inspections continue non-stop and in the same chain inspections are carried out 2 and 3 times” and added that “in the last 20 days there are fines from EUR 1.5 million “.

“The crime rate is high and I believe that the market will adapt, now that everyone knows that they can not escape,” said Mr. Georgiadis.
