Both the Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, and the Minister of Development and Investment, Adonis Georgiadis, were optimistic about the course of the Greek economy, welcoming them at the presentation of the annual exhibition IME GSEVEE 2021 “The impact of the pandemic on business”.
The two ministers said that there are uncertainties and dangers, but that the country should enter a virtuous economic cycle.
The government is monitoring the issue of price increases and if necessary will intervene with new measures, noted both Mr. Staikouras and the Minister of Development and Investment Georgiadis.
Mr. Georgiadis stressed that a law is in force until the end of the year, according to which companies can not increase the profit margin to a higher percentage than they had before the pandemic and, as he said, this regulation will be extended. for another six months or as long as necessary, as long as there is a pandemic. He added that the inspections are continuous and the Competition Commission, for its part, continues its own investigations and interventions.
To facilitate access to finance for businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, both ministers said it was a key goal of the government to increase business access to capital.
Finally, Mr. Georgiadis stressed that the doors of the government are always open for a constructive dialogue and added that, without wanting to question the research data, “however, the fact that no previous forecasts for business closures were confirmed shows that the government is doing something.” .
