Ad. Georgiadis: The government’s support measures will be targeted

“There will be an immediate public awareness campaign by the Ministry of Environment and Energy on how to act this winter in order to reduce the enormous damage that our economy and our pockets will suffer from the energy war of Putin in Europe. We have to keep in mind that we shouldn’t spend electricity the way we did it in the past. Electricity is now too expensive.”

This was stated by the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, speaking, this morning, on “MEGA Weekend”, about the energy crisis and about the support measures for households and businesses.

As he said: “Europe and Greece are entering the most difficult winter since 1942. Anyone who can find an alternative way to heat their home for the winter, find it. Oil is currently 6 times cheaper than natural gas. Putin is using natural gas as a weapon against Europe, he is not only attacking Ukraine, he is an enemy of the EU. All European citizens should know that we are in an economic, trade, energy war with Russia, and take action against energy crisis”.

He also noted that: “In Greece, after Mitsotakis interventions on energy, we have not yet realized in our bill how expensive electricity is. What we see in our bills is what the state pays. We all have to operate now, with power saving in mind. There is no doubt that the Greek government will continue to support the citizens. The economy is doing very well, better than all European countries, we have a triple record of investment and tourism, our best performance in the country’s history us”.

Regarding the reduction of the excise tax on fuel, Adonis Georgiadis said that “our policies will be targeted at those in need, and will not be general measures. This is because we must keep our strength. The next months will be difficult, and we should operate wisely. We don’t have money to scatter, we have a specific budget, we have fiscal goals to implement. The measures taken by the government will be announced by the prime minister at the TIF, we will help all citizens who are in need.”
