Ad. Georgiadis: There will be no horizontal reduction of the excise tax on fuel

In a week, the announcements of measures for accuracy will be made and as far as the budget can bear, intervention will be made to relieve the citizens, as much as possible. We always look at the implementation of the measures we take and correct what is not going well. The purpose of the government is not to wrong anyone, the purpose is to be by the side of our fellow citizens as much as we can, managing a global turmoil. Greece is in a good situation compared to other countries, said the Minister of Development and Investment Adonis Georgiadis, speaking to the television station Mega, regarding the government’s interventions to be precise.

“Excise duty has been and remains very high, and this government has not increased taxes. There will be no horizontal reduction in excise duty on fuel,” he said.

“The gas station owners have highlighted the part of the gas stations that sells gasoline below the price of the refinery. There is no law that forbids you to sell cheaper. So the Ministry of Development and the DI.MEA (Inter-Service Market Control Unit) carry out daily inspections. “However, we can not fine someone who sells cheaper. We can fine someone who sells more expensive.”

“Gas station owners ask the following question: is it possible for someone to sell for a long time below cost? Obviously it does not make sense. Whether it is a product of smuggling or fraud, the state authorities find out. We have already contacted the competent authorities in order to to carry out inspections at service stations that sell below cost “, he pointed out.

“The demand for a horizontal tax cut is in conflict with our economic reality. The government is between conflicting interests. On the one hand, the citizens who want less taxes and the state that should not be in danger,” he added. .

Regarding the fines and the publication of the names of those who are illegal, Mr. Georgiadis said that “the law on notoriety, which we have passed, concerns the publication of the company that has been fined for more than 50,000 euros or that has received fine for the second time for this reason “.

Finally the minister, on the forecasts for the rise in oil prices. “Yesterday we had a meeting with OPEC, and there seems to be concern about the price of oil in 2022. Too many countries have increased demand for oil for many reasons, and the green agenda has created the ‘perfect storm’ in energy. If it stops,” he said. “The war with the Ukraine-Russia agreement will be the most pleasant scenario.”
