The mayoress of Barcelona, Ada Colau, announced this Saturday an agreement with the ERC municipal group that will allow joining the two lines of the Barcelona tram along Avinguda Diagonal from autumn 2021.
At a press conference this Saturday, he explained that the union of the tram is a commitment to public transport as an alternative to the private car that will promote more efficient mobility and reduce pollution in the city.
In this way, the City Council undertakes to allocate a total of 56 million euros for the redevelopment of the section of the first phase, which runs from Plaza de Glories until the station Verdaguer, informa Europa Press.
Colau has argued that the union of the tramway is one of the City Council’s priorities to resolve metropolitan mobility, together with the completion of line 9 of the Metro of Barcelona and investment in CercanÃas.
The works are part of the ‘Super Illa Barcelona’ project, an action that, according to Colau, is strategic to “change mobility habits and that should mark a before and after the urban transformation of the city”.
The agreement will be voted on at the next plenary session of the Barcelona City Council scheduled for December 23, which will be the last plenary session of the council in 2020.
