The CEO of the American cinema chain AMC Theaters said that his company makes a third of payments using digital assets.
Adam Aron at the company’s 1Q 2022 earnings call conference reportedthat, thanks to the collaboration of AMC Theaters with Apple Pay, Google Pay, Paypal, Bitpay and Venmo, customers have the opportunity to use new payment methods. The AMC network began accepting payments in crypto assets just a few months ago, and this, according to the CEO, has already resonated with moviegoers. By adding support for online payments in BTC, BTH, ETH, LTC, DOGE and SHIB, AMC Theaters has cemented its reputation as one of the leading theater chains in the United States, Aron said.
Now cryptocurrencies are increasingly used by viewers to make online payments for the company’s services, and the number of these payments is already about 35%. Cryptocurrencies helped the company significantly increase ticket sales in cinemas, the CEO noted. Given that people reacted to the introduction of crypto assets with great enthusiasm, the network operator began to explore the possibilities of non-fungible tokens. AMC has eight NFT projects in the works that could be launched as early as this year.
Last November, AMC Entertainment partnered with Sony Pictures to unveil 86,000 Spider-Man collectible tokens. They were received by the first buyers of tickets for the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. According to MarketsandMarkets, the NFT market will grow to $13.6 billion by 2027, with corporations and gaming communities making a big contribution to the development of this industry.
