Adele asks and Spotify removes “random order” from her new album

When it comes to art, Adele has a way of enjoying getting things done. The singer believes that an album’s tracks should be heard in their arranged order — and now she has streaming giant Spotify on her side.

After the release of their fourth album “30”, the shuffle button is no longer the default option for listening to the album on Spotify — instead, listeners will hear the tracks in their listed order.

“This is the only request I’ve had in our ever-changing industry!” Adele wrote on Twitter on Sunday. “We don’t create albums so carefully and thoughtfully in our track list for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories must be heard as we intended. Thanks Spotify for listening.”

Looks like Spotify was more than happy to comply, writing “anything for you” in response to the singer’s tweet.

A CNN contacted Spotify for comment.

The album “30”, which was released on November 19 and focuses on Adele’s healing process after her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki, received critical acclaim. The singer describes him as the closest to her heart.

Premium listeners can still shuffle individual tracks if they wish, but several fans thanked Adele for the update, saying they would never listen to an album in shuffle mode, especially the first time.

A significant proportion of users seem to be annoyed by the change, with several fans criticizing Adele for asking to remove the default random option.

Taylor Swift previously criticized Spotify for its free service, arguing that artists did not receive enough royalties and withdrawing the entire catalog from the platform in 2014 — although it reversed the decision in 2017.

However, Adele’s own relationship with Spotify wasn’t always so cozy. When she released her latest album “25”, she decided to avoid streaming, saying it was “a little throwaway” and “music should be an event”. The album was later added to streaming.

Last month, “Easy On Me”, the first single from “30”, broke Spotify’s record for the most streamed song in a single day and broke the UK record for the most streamed song in a single day. one week.
