Adele cries in TV special during reunion with high school teacher

Adele is known for moving fans to tears with her music, but the Grammy-winning singer was moved to tears after a surprise encounter with a former high school teacher.

The emotional moment came during the British powerhouse’s special show for ITV, “An Audience with Adele,” which aired in the UK on Sunday night.

During the pre-recorded show, the pop superstar received a question from Hollywood actress Emma Thompson, who wondered if there was anyone in her past who supported, inspired, or protected her from life’s trials and tribulations.

In response, Adele opened up about the impact Ms. McDonald, her English teacher at Chestnut Grove Academy, had on her.

The London-born singer shared: “I had a teacher at (South London secondary school) Chestnut Grove, who taught me English. That was Mrs. McDonald… she really got me into English literature. Like, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write the lyrics.”

“She was so nice. So engaging,” Adele added, noting that McDonald used to wear gold sequins and bracelets. “She really made us care and we knew she cared about us.”

Thompson then revealed that McDonald, whom Adele hadn’t seen in 20 years, was in the audience. It’s time for the singer, who usually surprises fans at her shows, to be amazed.

In the video shared on ITV’s Twitter account of the UK televised special show, Adele hugged her former mentor after she was brought on stage.

“I’m so proud of you,” McDonald said as Adele cried with joy.

During their conversation, the “Easy On Me” hitmaker told McDonald, “You really changed my life.”

“Now I need to remake my entire face,” joked the 33-year-old star as he wiped away tears. She then called host Alan Carr to entertain the audience with a song as she left the stage to regain her composure.

After the special aired, Adele went to Twitter to share her excitement about the meeting.

“Home Sweet Home. I’ve always dreamed of doing An Audience With…” she wrote alongside a series of photos from the TV special, adding: “There was so much love for each other in the room, it felt like a great show! Everyone was noisy and ready for it! And my teacher, Mrs. McDonald was there, it was just heaven. ”

“An Audience With Adele” was filmed at the London Palladium earlier this month to a star-studded audience that included the likes of Samuel L. Jackson, Jodie Comer and Idris Elba. The broadcast comes a week after a similar US TV special, “Adele One Night Only,” which included an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey.

She is currently promoting her new album, “30”, which is her fourth studio album and the first to be released since 2015.

The project, which focuses on Adele’s healing process after her divorce from Simon Konecki, was critically acclaimed.
