Adele may be the queen of telling the truth to our broken hearts, but a lovesick couple stole the show during her Sunday night special on CBS.

The scenario was this: a man reached out to what he believed to be a show — but was actually a “fake show,” Adele said — to help him ask his seven-year-old girlfriend to marry him.

They spent the day picnicking in the area near Adele’s show and the evening would culminate in the request.

The plan worked, with lovely results.

“If you make a noise, I’m going to kill you,” Adele told the crowd, which included celebrities like Lizzo and Melissa McCarthy.

The woman wore noise-canceling headphones and a blindfold. “Is this real?” she asked when they were removed. “Who are these people?”

The man asked the question, she accepted and Adele revealed herself from the shadows before singing “Make You Feel My Love.”

“She’s crying a lot,” Adele joked at one point midway through the song.

The timing was somewhat ironic, as the singer is promoting “30”, which many have dubbed the singer’s “divorce album”. However, one thing became clear during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, which took two hours: the album can be seen as about unity — just, in her case, she’s joining her happier side. And doing that required a lot of tough decisions.

She told Winfrey about her current relationship with sports agent Rich Paul: It’s the first time she’s been in a relationship where she “loves herself and is open to loving and being loved by someone else.”
