Aerial images: 90% of city in Amazonas is taken over by the flood of the Acre River

In the municipality of Boca do Acre, in the interior of Amazonas, close to the state border with Acre, around 90% of the city was taken over by flooding caused by the Acre and Purus rivers.

According to the municipality's Civil Defense, more than 15 thousand people were affected. The city council has already set up four public shelters in municipal and state schools. Basic food baskets and drinking water are being distributed to the population.

In Boca do Acre, the river level reached 20.20 meters.

As the disaster exceeded the municipality's response capacity, it was necessary to declare a state of emergency. In addition to Boca do Acre, the municipalities of Envira and Guajará, also in Amazonas, have suffered from the rise of rivers.

According to the state Civil Defense, more than a thousand people in Envira were affected and 15 were homeless. In Guajará, more than five thousand are affected and 300 are homeless. The agency warns the population about the risks of a gradual rise in water levels.

State of Acre

The government of Acre transferred R$4 million in resources to the municipalities, of which R$2.5 million were direct transfers and R$1.5 million were emergency supplies, such as basic food baskets, mattresses, drinking water , cleaning and hygiene kit.

In Cruzeiro do Sul, a city with great economic importance in the interior of the state, the flood affected around 20 thousand riverside residents. According to the Acre government, the Juruá River continues to fall and has already reduced by more than 35 centimeters since last Friday (8).

The Acre River is below the alert level, which is 13.50 meters and, on Tuesday morning (12), it reached 12.28 meters, in the capital Rio Branco.
