Italian airline Aeroitalia will operate routes outside Europe from November, the company’s non-executive president said on Monday (2).
German Efromovich, a businessman who previously held a stake in Colombian airline Avianca, said Aeroitalia has started charter flights with two Boeing 737 planes and plans to add six more aircraft by mid-year.
Sales for commercial flights will start in November as the airline adds destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, Colombian-Brazilian Efromovich said in a video call.
However, specific destinations have not yet been confirmed.
The airline plans to end 2022 with 10 planes in service and sometime in 2023 to add routes between Rome and Latin America, he said.
The company’s capital is being raised by French banker Marc Bourgade, Efromovich said, without giving figures.
Bourgade’s control of Argentine airline Avian will facilitate future Aeroitalia connections, Efromovich said, adding that stability in ticket prices is helping airlines’ post-Covid recovery despite high fuel prices.
