At least 46 people have been killed in Pakistani airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan, a spokesman for the Taliban’s de facto government in Kabul said today. “Yesterday (Tuesday) night Pakistani shelling was carried out in Barmal district, Paktika province,” Zabiullah Mujahid told AFP. “The total number of witnesses is 46”, he continued, stressing that “in the majority” of the victims “were children and women” and adding that “six wounded” were also counted. Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense denounced the “barbaric” airstrikes and said it would retaliate against the “attack”. “The Islamic Emirate will not let this cowardly attack go unanswered,” as it “considers the defense of its territory and national sovereignty its inalienable right,” according to a statement released by the ministry last night.
