Afghanistan: At 43 the dead from the kamikaze attack on an educational center

The death toll after the kamikaze attack on Friday 30/9 at an educational center of Afghanistan, while 600 children were inside. The latest report was released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.

“Forty-three dead. 83 injured. The victims are mainly young women and girls,” the mission said via Twitter, clarifying that it expects the number of victims to rise.

The attack took place in the Dast-e-Barsi district, in the western part of Kabul where the Hazara minority lives. Some of the deadliest attacks in Afghanistan have taken place there. “The students were preparing for an exam when a suicide bomber detonated the explosives he was carrying,” Police spokesman Khalid Zadran said on Friday.

A day after the suicide attack, around 50 women from Afghanistan, belonging to the Hazara ethnic minority, demonstrated in Kabul. Dressed in hijabs and wearing black headscarves, the protesters held banners that read: “Stop killing Hazaras.” They were deployed at the scene and fired repeatedly into the air to break up the gathering.
