Afghanistan: At least 12 injured in mosque blast in Nangarhar province

A bomb blast near a mosque in the eastern Afghan city of Spin Gar has injured at least 12 people, including the imam, and residents are reported dead.

A Taliban official confirmed the news: “I can confirm that there was an explosion during Friday prayers inside a mosque in the town of Spin Gar. There are wounded and dead.”

Atal Sinuari, a resident of the area, said the blast occurred around 1:30 p.m. (local time) when explosives exploded inside the mosque.

He noted that at least 12 people had been injured, including the imam of the mosque. Another resident said 15 people had been injured, three of them in critical condition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the latest in a series of bombings at a mosque in Afghanistan in recent weeks.

Sunnis go to this mosque. Previous attacks have targeted Shiite mosques, with Islamic State claiming responsibility.
