Afghanistan: At least 17 killed in festive shootings in Kabul

At least 17 people have been killed in a series of shootings in Kabul, news agencies have reported. Taliban sources said their fighters had taken control of Pansir, the last province in Afghanistan to resist the Islamist organization.

Opposition leaders in Taliban denied that the province was occupied.

The Samsad news agency reported that “Shots in the air” 17 people were killed and 41 were injured in Kabul on Friday. The Tolo news agency broadcast the same report.

At least 14 people were injured in a shooting in Nangarhar province, east of the capital, said Gulzada Sangar, a hospital spokesman in the provincial capital Jalalabad.

The fires provoked a reaction from the Taliban’s main spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahideen.

“Avoid shooting in the air, Mrs.“Instead, thank God,” Mujahid wrote in a Twitter message. “Bullets can hurt civilians, so do not shoot unnecessarily”.
