Afghanistan: One killed in Taliban bombing

One killed, seven injured in blast in eastern Nangarhar province Afghanistan and which targeted a Taliban convoy.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar, at 8:00 a.m. local time (06:30 a.m. Greek time), a local spokesman said. Taliban, without giving further details.

A source from Nangarhar Regional Hospital said one Taliban fighter was killed and others seven people were injured, including four civilians. They were all taken to hospital.

Targeted killings and bombings have risen in Nangarhar province, once a stronghold of Islamic State, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in mid-August.

The IK has claimed responsibility for some of the recent attacks. However, a senior Taliban official recently assured that the Islamic State terrorist organization is not a threat to Afghanistan and stressed that the Islamist movement is able to deal with it.
