Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is in urgent consultations with local leaders and international partners on the situation in the country. as the Taliban continue to advance.
“As your president, I focus on preventing further instability, violence and displacement of my people,” Ghani said during a brief televised address to APE-MPE.
“The re-mobilization of our security and defense forces is our main priority and serious measures are being taken to that end,” Ghani said.

The military situation in Afghanistan is critical. In just over a week, the Taliban have taken control of almost the entire northern, western and southern parts of the country and are approaching Kabul, about 50km from the capital.
“I will not allow the war imposed on the people to cause the death of more innocent people, the disappearance of the achievements of the last 20 years, the destruction of state infrastructure and the continuation of instability,” the Afghan president also promised.
