Afghanistan, Shapoor’s family has arrived in Palermo

Ten people finally safe and sound. Ten stories that meet the happy ending. The family of Shapoor Safari, cook of the Moltivolti restaurant in Palermo, has arrived at their destination, in the city, far from the Afghan hell. A few weeks ago, the group left his country across the border with Pakistan (we told you their story here) and spent a long time in the capital Islamabad waiting for visas. And, if it made it today, the credit is also due to those who contributed to the crowdfunding launched a few weeks ago on the GoFundMe platform, which raised over ten thousand euros in a few days.

There is also waiting for the family at the airport Feroz, Shapoor’s cousin, arrived from Frankfurt to embrace his wife Waheda after five years. In Germany he managed to find a job in a fry shop, and now his dream is to be able to go and live with his wife in Frankfurt.

In the group there is a young woman who studied to become a midwife, gave birth to many children and worked in a hospital. But, since the Taliban regained power, she has no longer been allowed to work. There is Shapoor’s older sister who for so many years she worked as cleaner in the offices of the Central Bank of Afghanistan, thus managing to give economic stability to his family. There is also a young journalist and blogger, Shapoor’s nephew, who over the years has repeatedly denounced – through the independent information network he had founded – cases of corruption in his country, has been threatened several times by the Taliban and had to spend long months in hiding before approaching the Pakistani border and to be able to escape. There are also two small children with their mothers: they are the only ones who don’t have a tired face and show off a big smile without shadows.
