A suicide bomber has been shot dead by security forces at the door of a passport office in the Afghan capital, Kabul, a government spokesman has said, but the bomber struck shortly after noon injuring several people, according to unconfirmed reports.
A spokesman for Afghanistan’s interior ministry said a suicide bomber had been shot dead by security forces as he tried to enter a passport office.
A Taliban member who was present told Reuters that many people had been injured, while Taliban security forces had cordoned off the area.
In recent days, after the service reopened after weeks of closure, large numbers of Afghans have gathered outside the passport office in hopes of issuing travel documents to leave the country.
Officials said Taliban officials went to the office on Thursday to issue a passport.
