Afghanistan: Taliban begin public executions – Kill Afghan convicted of murder

They performed their first public execution on Wednesday (7/12) at Afghanistan, after their return to power in August 2021, the Taliban who killed an Afghan man who had been convicted of murder.

The execution of the man took place in the western province of Farah and involved people who had been found guilty of stabbing another man to death in 2017, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said, clarifying that the execution took place in the presence of several high-ranking Taliban officials.

The representative of the Taliban, as reported by the Athens News Agency, did not make it known how this man was executed.

The public implementation It came after the country’s Supreme Court had announced in recent weeks public floggings of men and women accused of crimes such as theft and adultery in the country’s provinces.

Last month Taliban supreme leader Himbatullah Akhundzada ordered judges to fully apply Islamic law, particularly its provisions for public executions, stonings and floggings, as well as the mutilation of thieves.

A spokesman for the UN Human Rights Office last month called on Taliban authorities to immediately stop public floggings in Afghanistan.
