Afghanistan: Taliban call on women to cover their heads even with a blanket

To cover their head even with a blanket if necessary call them women working in the State Taliban who have occupied Afghanistan, otherwise they risk losing their jobs.

The recommendation to working women was announced by the Ministry of Ethics Promotion.

Most women working in the public sector were barred from returning to work after the Taliban have seized power in Afghanistan in August, although Islamists say they will be allowed to do so once certain conditions are met, such as strict gender segregation in the workplace.

If they do not obey, they risk dismissal

The ministry warned in a statement published on Tuesday (22/2) that Women civil servants should not show up at work if they do not have their heads covered properly and added, as broadcast by the Athenian News Agency that if they do not follow this rule, they will be fired.

The statement did not specify how much of a woman’s head should be covered, in a country where the vast majority of women were already wearing headscarves rather than loose before the Taliban even seized power.

“They can wear the hijab the way they want”pointed out Mohammad Sadiq Akif Muhajir, a spokesman for the ministry.

When asked if women should wear a burqa, he replied that they can wear the blanket of their choice.

«They can wear any type of hijab, it depends on them, but they should be properly covered “even if they have to wear a blanket,” he stressed.
