Afghanistan: Taliban ring in parks – Other days women more men

The Ministry of Virtue and the Prevention of Corruption of the Taliban today ordered all amusement parks in Kabul to separate visitors on the basis of gender, which means that family members will no longer be able to go to these places together.

According to a schedule issued by the ministry, women are allowed to visit amusement parks where there are theme games and activities in Kabul and adjacent areas from Sunday to Tuesday wearing the Islamic hijab and men only from Wednesday to Saturday.

The Taliban government is imposing more and more restrictions on public life.

On Wednesday, the Taliban pledged to provide secondary education to girls under the age of one, prompting reactions in the country with demonstrations by teachers, students and women’s rights activists.

International organizations and foreign governments have called on the Taliban to reconsider their decision.

Dozens of women were prevented from boarding flights at Kabul International Airport on Friday because they were not accompanied by a man.

“Gender apartheid in Afghanistan is escalating at an alarming rate,” Heather Barr, a former senior Afghanistan researcher at Human Rights Watch, wrote on Twitter in response to the Taliban’s decision.
