The Taliban announced today that they had taken “full” control of the Panchir Valley, where resistance had been organized against them after seizing power in Afghanistan in mid-August.
“With this victory, our country is now completely out of the withering of the war,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, a key spokesman for the Islamist movement.
There has been no reaction so far from Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the self-proclaimed National Resistance Front (EMA). Earlier, the Front reported that it had called for a ceasefire.
Photographs uploaded to social media sites show Taliban fighters standing in front of the gate of the Panjir governor’s building complex.
Afghanistan: Resistance Against Taliban ‘Will Continue’ in Pansir Valley
The National Resistance Front promised today that it would continue the fight against the Taliban in the Pansir Valley, which the Taliban had announced earlier that they had brought under their full control.
The National Resistance Front claimed on its Twitter account that it still held “strategic positions” in the valley. “The fight against the Taliban and their allies will continue,” he added.
