A core of the Islamic State (ISIS) destroyed forces of their government Taliban on Sunday night (3/10) in the north Kabul, said a representative of the movement, after explosion outside a mosque in the Afghan capital, which claimed the lives and injured civilians.
However, there was no confirmation that the operation was directly linked to yesterday’s explosion, which was the most serious attack in the Afghan capital after the withdrawal of American forces at the end of August.
The local Islamic State group, known as ISIS-Khorasan, has already claimed responsibility for attacks on the Taliban and has not reconciled with the movement, which claimed a sweeping victory in August against the Western-backed government in Kabul. ΑΠΕ-ΜΠΕ.
Afghanistan: “ISIS base completely destroyed and all ISIS members inside were killed”
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said a Taliban special unit had carried out an operation against ISIS elements in the 17th district of Kabul, in the northern part of the city, late last night, Sunday night.
“The ISIS base was completely destroyed and all the ISIS members inside it were killed as a result of this decisive and successful attack,” Mujahid said in a Twitter message early this morning.
Earlier, local media reported heavy clashes in the area and residents confirmed that they heard explosions and fire overnight. The Taliban, which is also fighting forces loyal to Ahmad Massoud, an opposition leader in the Pansir district north of Kabul, has said it has almost complete control of the country.
But yesterday’s violence, as well as a series of smaller incidents in recent days in areas such as Nangarhar, on the border with Pakistan, and Parwan, north of Kabul, show that security threats have not disappeared.
