The governments of Turkey and Qatar have reached an agreement with the Taliban movement, which imposes UN sanctions on terrorism over the operation of Kabul International Airport and four other airports in Afghanistan, the Turkish state news agency Anatolia reported.
The parties held “productive and effective” negotiations, during which it was agreed to set up technical teams to define the details of the operation of the airports in the coming days, Anatoli added, citing unnamed sources.
“Doha and Ankara have agreed to operate Kabul International Airport jointly,” the sources said.
A joint Turkish-Qatari commission will travel to the Afghan capital to continue the process.
The Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on August 15, while the Western-backed government and its army collapsed.
