The number of officially recorded cases of the new coronavirus in Africa reached 11,770,537 on Sunday night, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDC) announced.
According to data collected by the ACDC, the African Union’s public health service, the death toll from the pandemic across the continent has reached 253,994 dead.
South Africa (3.99 million) and Morocco (1.2 million) have the highest infection rates, according to the same source.
The southern part of Africa remains the one with the highest number of infections, followed by the northern and eastern parts. The central part of the continent continues to be the least hit hardest by the pandemic to date, according to the ACDC.
