The number of officially recorded cases of the new coronavirus in Africa reached 11,596,707 on Sunday night, the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDC) announced.
According to data collected by the ACDC, the African Union’s public health service, the death toll from the pandemic across the continent has reached 252,892 dead.
South Africa (3.92 million), Morocco (1.16 million), Tunisia and Libya have the highest infection rates.
The southern part of Africa records the most infections, followed by the north and the east. The central part of the continent remains the one that has suffered the least impact to date, always according to the ACDC.
