The number of officially registered cases of the new coronavirus in Africa reached 9,551,909 yesterday Wednesday afternoon, announced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of Africa (ACDC).
According to data collected by the ACDC, the public health service of the African Union, the death toll from the pandemic across the continent has reached this stage 227,872 dead.
South Africa (3.42 million), Morocco (over 957,000), Tunisia and Ethiopia have the highest infection rates.
The southern part of Africa – where the Omicron variant was found – is the one most affected, followed by the north and east. The central part of the continent is the one that is least affected to date.
