Afro Fashion Week Milano al via

Now in its sixth edition, the Afro Fashion Week Milano will be staged in the Milanese capital from 23 to 26 September. The protagonists SS 2022 collections, unveiled at the cry of «BEYOND MITUMBA – Unveiling the Unseen». In fact, the title anticipates the issues that will be addressed through the fashion shows of the emerging designers selected by Afro Fashion Association during the meetings, talks and interviews that will accompany the catwalks. All completed by a special Mitumba carpet.

The term “Handbags” encompasses a widespread phenomenon in developing countries and consists in the reselling of used clothes from Western countries. These masses of textile products alter the very delicate balance of African countries with an excess of material. As a result, textile dumps are formed, which do not have adequate outlets, and which create further problems of environmental pollution on site.

All this prevents a healthy development of creativity and entrepreneurship of local fashion, encouraging a survival economy as an end in itself. From the observation of this phenomenon, which is increasing on the African continent, Afro Fashion Week 6 has decided to focus on recycling theme in all its aspects, even the most complex and “unseen”. Textile recycling is in fact the great protagonist of the fashion shows of new international designers who will interpret the theme through their collections.

The project also came to life in this edition Fab Five Bridge Builders International, which intends to promote BIPOC creativity in all aspects. The movement that AFRO FASHION ASSOCIATION has developed in past editions has made it possible to create a network of young people, coming from all continents, in search of a common and non-profit platform, which allows them to enter the markets and demonstrate their talents. Fashion, design, art, tourism, local culture and international cooperation are the areas in which the new protagonists move. Starting from fashion, in these days 5 stylists from Cameroon and 6 from other continents will parade, in the frame of Afro Fashion Week Milano 6:
