Afrofuturism is a term that came to be used to define a cultural movement that manifests itself in the fields of literature, cinema, photography, fashion, art and music.
To talk about it, the CNN Our World this Saturday (26) welcomes Ale Santos, screenwriter and specialist in storytelling on Afrofuturism.
“It emerges as a social movement and a political action by black artists. It basically brings the black perspective, under the aspects of aesthetics and ancestry, to the discussions of science, science fiction and technology”, he explained.
“All this to produce narratives that question society and place black people in a future that they were never imagined to be in”, he added.
Ale Santos also points out that “all stories are important, including stories of pain. But the problem is that black stories are just stories of pain. We need more success and happy stories.”
The writer then commented on the importance of art for this. “Entertainment is very powerful. There, we can rebuild our people’s sense of belonging,” he highlighted.
