After 12 days of rain, the Tocantins government declares an emergency

The governor of Tocantins, Wanderlei Barbosa (no party), decreed on Wednesday (5) an emergency due to floods caused by heavy rains that hit the state in the northern region of the country.

With the decree, the governor dispenses with the bidding process for the acquisition of goods and services related to flood response activities. In addition, the mobilization of all state administration bodies and entities to act in the affected regions is authorized.

Since the beginning of the rains, 12 days ago, the state has registered a total of 296 homeless and 236 homeless.

Despite the decree of a state of emergency, the levels of hydroelectric power plants in the state, which could pose an even greater risk to the regions, are in a less worrying situation at this point.

According to the Fire Department and Civil Defense, the situation is under control, and the trend for the coming days is for water levels to continue falling.

The Peixe Angical Hydroelectric Power Plant, in the city of Peixe, reached a peak of 14,000 m3/s and is currently operating at an average of 6,000 m3/s.
