After 132 days of drought, it rains in Brasília

This Friday afternoon (16), the rain returned to the Federal District (DF), after 132 days. The administrative regions of Taguatinga and Ceilândia received a light rain, about 5 millimeters. At around 5:48 pm, it was the Plano Piloto’s turn to register small blows. At night, the weather should be open in the capital, which has not had a record of rain since May 7th.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) pointed out on Thursday night (15) that there was a small chance of rain and recorded 1 millimeter in the federal capital.

This was the longest period of drought in the last 52 years. The last time the DF had such a long period without rain was in 1970, when the place experienced 135 days of drought. The longest interval was in 1963, when the DF stopped registering rain for 164 days.

On Wednesday (14), according to Inmet, the DF also recorded a new heat record, the thermometers reached 35.2°C, around 2 pm. The minimum relative humidity was 11% – the ideal, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), is 60%. This was the fourth consecutive day with temperature records in the capital.

On Thursday (15), the temperature reached 34.1°C, also around 2pm. This Friday (16), the maximum is 32°C and the minimum is 19°C, with a minimum humidity of 25%.
