After 20 months, MSC cruises resume activities in Brazilian waters

A MSC Cruises confirmed this Wednesday (3) the resumption of operations for the 2021/2022 season in Brazil from November 5th.

The officialization takes place after the publication of an ordinance that approves the return of cruises in Brazilian waters.

Following the directive, MSC was obliged to update its itineraries throughout the region and replace international destinations such as Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Punta del Este with Brazilian ports, including Balneário Camboriú, Porto Belo, Cabo Frio, Ilhabela, Salvador and Maceió in different itineraries.

As a result of this measure, the MSC Grand Voyages cruises scheduled to depart Europe for Brazil, the MSC Sinfonia cruises scheduled to depart from Itajaí to Argentina and Uruguay, as well as the MSC Orchestra cruises scheduled to depart from Argentina with destination to Brazil cannot be carried out.

The Port of Santos confirmed to CNN the arrival of the MSC Preziosa vessel, claiming that it is the first to dock.

The Port also stated that there will be five ships with several tourist trips scheduled until April along the coast, all departing from Santos. “MSC Preziosa is the one that will travel the most (and it’s the one that’s here today)”.

According to MSC, the ship begins operation on November 5th, after 20 months of stoppage.

“The ship will offer three- and four-night cruises departing from Santos and alternate stopovers in Ilha Grande, Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro, Ilhabela, Porto Belo and Balneário Camboriú; 3-night cruises with departures in Rio de Janeiro and alternate stopovers in Ilhabela and Cabo Frio; five- and six-night cruises departing from Rio de Janeiro with alternate stopovers in Cabo Frio, Ilhéus and Salvador; and seven- and eight-night cruises departing from Rio de Janeiro and visiting Ilha Grande, Cabo Frio, Ilhéus, Salvador and Maceió instead to previously announced international cruises”, says the company.
