Five days after the Voepass plane crashed in the Recanto Florido condominium in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, difficulties continue to challenge the authorities working on the consequences of the accident that killed 58 passengers and 4 crew members, totaling 62 people.
The tragedy occurred last Friday (9) at around 1:20 pm. Voepass flight 2283 left Cascavel, in Paraná, and was headed for Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo. Since then, investigations into the plane crash have involved agencies from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), as well as the Federal Police (PF) and the Civil Police of São Paulo.
On Sunday (11), after the bodies were removed, the engines and tail of the aircraft were taken for analysis by the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa).
The work to remove the victims’ personal items, which should have taken place on Monday (12), was interrupted. The São Paulo Scientific Police had to be called after new genetic material was found among the wreckage.
Belongings will only be removed when there is no new genetic material.
According to information collected by CNN the next steps include the following steps:
- Expertise (removal of genetic material)
- Sorting personal items
- Removal of items by Voepass insurance company
- Removal of items by the Civil Police
- Fuselage removal
- Cleaning and sanitizing the place
- Site reconstruction works
The work of agents from the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) was completed at the crash site, when parts of the aircraft were taken along with the black boxes to be examined in Brasília. The agency, linked to the Brazilian Air Force, has a French agency that is helping to investigate the plane crash. The expert work should continue for at least another 30 days until Cenipa releases the Preliminary Report on the accident.
The victims’ personal belongings will be catalogued and returned to their families. Representatives of the airline and its contracted insurance company will be responsible for collecting the personal belongings. The removal of luggage and clothing will also be carried out by the insurance company. Voepass has contacted the insurance company to compensate the families of the victims of the plane crash. The removal of items such as cell phones, for example, should be handled by the Civil Police, since they can support the investigation.
After the work and collection of items, the cleaning stage with the removal of the fuselage and cleaning of the site will be the responsibility of the insurer, which must also support the reconstruction of the site.
