After a court battle, Parque Augusta will be inaugurated this Saturday (06)

After conflicts with construction companies and the embargo on the work to search for archaeological remains of indigenous populations, among other problems, Parque Augusta will finally be inaugurated by the City of São Paulo this Saturday (6th).

The area located in the center of São Paulo was the focus of a battle between neighborhood associations, who wanted the area to remain public, and construction companies Setin and Cyrela, who ended up ceding the site to the City Hall in exchange for building potential titles in others areas of the city.

The works for the construction of the park began in October 2019, but were interrupted three months later at the request of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan), which was investigating the existence of an archaeological site in the region.

Parque Augusta, which had an investment of R$ 11 million, is located in an area of 23 thousand square meters in the central region of São Paulo and includes a playground and a dog track. It also has management and composting areas. There was also restoration of the Casa das Araras and the Portal – which are listed. The place housed a small palace and a school until the mid-1970s.
