After accelerated growth, Me Poupe! faces crisis and fires half of the team

From 2015 to 2022, the number of investors on the Stock Exchange jumped by 850% in the country, reaching 5.3 million. Riding on Brazilians’ interest in the world of finance, many digital influencers have created businesses that were born on YouTube and today employ hundreds of people. But the crisis seems to have knocked on the door of these companies after the accelerated growth.

On Friday (27) Me Poupe!, by journalist Nathalia Arcuri, fired around 70 people at once, which represents half of the 140 employees declared at the end of last year. Talking about topics ranging from investment options in fixed income to complex operations with stocks, Me Poupe! has more than 7 million subscribers on YouTube.

In a note, Me Poupe! reported that the layoffs were a reflection of the need to restructure employee functions and that the company will change its business model – which is still unknown. “This movement requires other training and technical skills from the team, which led to the difficult decision to carry out the aforementioned dismissals,” the company said.

Courses

In addition to talking about finance, the influencers have in common the audience success based on content of interest to Brazilians. With the evolution of business, companies began to sell courses on financial management and investments, in addition to increasing the production of videos for different platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, in addition to YouTube.

According to analysts, with the increase in interest rates, companies that were more dedicated to the financial market saw a much less optimistic horizon than in the past.
