After an active search, 40,000 children were vaccinated in the city of Rio de Janeiro

Since the beginning of the active search work to encourage the vaccination campaign for children between 5 and 11 years old in the city of Rio de Janeiro, 40,000 doses against Covid-19 have been applied to the target audience.

“The active search is paying off. 40,000 children have already been vaccinated in schools and through the work of community agents. The numbers are gradually rising. In all, 58% of children are vaccinated. We are getting closer to our goal, which is to reach 80%”, explained the municipal secretary of Health of the state capital, Daniel Soranz.

At the beginning of the campaign, Soranz warned about the low adherence to the immunizer against Covid-19 and attributed the low demand to fake news about the safety of vaccines.

The pace of immunization work in schools, however, is less than the capacity of the Health and Education departments, due to the lack of doses.

According to Soranz, the stock of Coronavac is zero but there is an expectation of arrival of 50 thousand doses of Pfizer for pediatric use for this Tuesday (15).

“When stocks are at their limit, we need to keep our search active. If we had enough vaccine, we could do this active search in schools in a much shorter time than we are doing today,” she said.

According to the secretary, vaccines are being received by the municipality in a staggered manner. “We also scaled this active search in schools around 45 days, which is the period that we expect the ministry to be able to make available all vaccines to vaccinate the age group from 5 to 11 years”, said the secretary.
