After assault, Osasco GCM prohibits use of rear naked choke

After a cyclist was attacked by six municipal civil guards in Osasco, in Greater São Paulo, the city government prohibited officers from applying the chokehold or other strangulation techniques. The decision was made last Thursday (4).

The city government says that, after learning of the attacks, which occurred against a cyclist on Tuesday (2), the GCM Internal Affairs Unit was notified to investigate the case. The six officers involved were removed from their duties on the streets and will hold administrative positions until the investigation is concluded.

Aggression

Witnesses even claim that, at the time of the approach, the guards sprayed the cyclist in the face while he rubbed his eye.

Images of the situation show an argument between the cyclist and the guards, until another GCM approaches with a large weapon. The agents then immobilize the man and, with him already on the ground, begin to attack him.

With that, a table and boxes of shoes fall to the floor. One of the police officers applies a chokehold. Witnesses start shouting “he’s going to kill the guy” and “the guy just rode by on his bike”. One of the police officers picks up the bike and two others take the immobilized victim away.
