After attack, Trump calls for unity and tells supporters not to “let evil win”

Donald Trump, former US president, wrote on the social network Truth Social that the population must remain united and that “we show our true character as Americans by remaining strong and determined and not allowing evil to win”, after surviving an assassination attempt on Saturday (13).

“I thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was only God who prevented the unthinkable from happening,” he wrote. “We will not fear, but will remain resilient in our faith and defiant in the face of evil.”

Trump wrote that he is praying for the injured and that “we hold in our hearts the memory of our citizen who was killed in such a horrific manner.”

An audience member and the gunman have died after the shooting at the former president’s Pennsylvania rally.

“I truly love our country and I love all of you, and I look forward to speaking to our great nation this week from Wisconsin,” he concluded.

On Saturday, Trump had already stated on Truth Social that he “knew immediately something was wrong as I heard a buzzing sound, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet rip through the skin”, confirming that he was shot and hit by a bullet in the “upper part of my right ear”.

Still according to his message, there was a lot of bleeding and, after that, he realized what was happening.

Condolences were also offered to the family of the spectator who was in the audience and died and to the other person who was seriously injured.
