After becoming a mother, Iza reflects on Black Awareness Day: “More meaning”

The singer Isa, 34, reflected on the Black Awareness Day this Wednesday (20). Little girl’s mother Nala, who was born on October 13th, the artist spoke about the world she wants for her daughter.

“From the moment I discovered myself as a mother, some reflections gained a new depth. Today, we experience the first Black Awareness Day as a national holiday, and also my first with Nala in my arms. What used to be no longer just about me now has even more meaning. It’s also about the world she will encounter”, began Iza.

In her text, the singer added: “As a black woman, this concern often consumes me. It’s a feeling that runs through me. Recognizing this is part of the path. I know that, given the position I occupy today, some pain may not reach me directly.”

“But even with privileges, the structure still weighs on us. And it is for my Nala, for my family, for ours, that I will continue with my head held high, occupying spaces that we were always told were not for us”, he said.

“I think a lot about the strength of my mother, who walked this path before me. I think about my grandmother, my aunts. I think about the black mothers I meet at my shows, each carrying their own resistance, your story and great generosity. The welcome between us is essential. Looking at these women reminds me that we are powerhouses. Today, more than ever, what guides me is hope.”

“I hope my daughter grows up in a world where respect for our existence does not have to be a constant struggle. May she be free to create, walk without fear, be whoever she wants to be. Dreams that are simple for many, and that for us, I wish were possible”, wrote the singer.

“Today, once again, we continue. But we also ask ourselves: ‘beyond the world we live in, what do we want to build for the next generations?’”.

Fruit of the artist’s relationship with the football player Yuri Lima 30, the baby was named Nala, of African origin, which means “gift”, “gift”, “loving”, “success” and “queen”.
