After Biden’s speeches, NATO also says there is no policy to change Russian regime

The administration of US President Joe Biden continued on Sunday to clarify its remark that Russian President Vladimir Putin “cannot remain in power”, made on Saturday (26), on his last day in Europe.

Julianne Smith, US ambassador to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), said in an interview this Sunday for the CNN that Biden’s startling remarks on Saturday were a “principled human reaction” made after he spent the day seeing firsthand the tragedies of war when he visited hundreds of Ukrainian refugees.

“He went to the National Stadium in Warsaw and literally met hundreds of Ukrainians. He heard their heroic stories as they fled Ukraine after Russia’s brutal war in Ukraine. Still, the US doesn’t have a regime change policy in Russia, period,” Smith said in the interview.

The ambassador’s comments come hours after Secretary of State Antony Blinken also tried to downplay the president’s comments in Israel, saying:

“I think the president, the White House, stated last night that, quite simply, President Putin cannot wage war or engage in aggression against Ukraine or anyone else.”

Asked to clarify whether the United States believes Putin should remain in power, Smith turned to the White House talking point that “the entire government, including the president, believes that we cannot empower Putin now to wage a war on the United States.” Ukraine or pursue these acts of aggression.”

Smith did not agree that the rapid turnaround by White House officials on the president’s remarks shows his advisers are weakening him on the world stage. For her, the authorities “feel great” with the instant trip of the president.

controversial lines

In a speech Saturday night in Poland, Biden called the Russian president a “dictator” and attacked the Russian president for the Kremlin operation that led to the war in Ukraine. He said Putin “cannot remain in power”. At the same time, Biden addressed words especially to Russian citizens, stating that the population is not considered an enemy of the West.

Before the evening’s speech, leaving the meeting with refugees, Biden spoke to the press and cursed Putin when asked what he thinks of the Russian president’s attitude towards Ukraine. “He is a butcher,” declared the US president.

The Kremlin has rejected Biden’s claims about Putin in Russia’s power. “It’s not up to Biden to decide. The president of Russia is elected by the Russians”, declared the Kremlin and, regarding the cursing after the visit to the refugees, the Russian government declared that the speech of the American president “decreases the possibility of repairing relations”.
